Generation Z really wants a break from their phones. Baby boomers? Not really.

Generation Z may be known as “digital natives,” but these are the same people who were actually less willing to take a break from their digital devices during the baby boom generation.

That's according to the latest study by website development company Squarespace, which surveyed 4,000 adults in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia about their digital behavior. Here are some key takeaways.

The advantages of the technology outweigh the disadvantages: 50 % Gen Z wants to take a break from their phone. This is a higher number than any other generation. In contrast, baby boomers are the least likely to want a break from their phones, according to 20 %. However, 62 % respondents agreed that the flexibility offered by smartphones outweighs the downsides of constant availability.

Websites are more trusted than social media: 55 % respondents said they trust the general Internet to find information, compared to 12 % respondents who say they trust social networks. This is still true for Gen Z, although only 41 % of Gen Z say they prefer websites. 20 % says that they use social networks to search for information.

Great nature can offer: only 15 % respondents said they would get through a day without looking at a website, compared to 18 %s who said they would get through a day without talking to someone, or 19 %s to get through day without going out.
