Oppo A79 5G: its advantage is mainly the price

Oppo is often an underrated company. It makes fantastic phones, but it's still overshadowed by its rivals. In Slovenia, we face the problem that quite a few excellent brands are not available here or are difficult to obtain. OnePlus, Google Pixel, Nubia, ASUS and also Oppo... These are the companies that could change the market and perhaps take a percentage away from the other incumbents.

Oppo's latest phone, the A79, could shake things up in the mid-range segment dominated by Redmi phones and Samsung's A-branded aliens. Its main advantage is price. The initial retail price is around 230 euros for the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage configuration. There is also support for the 5G network. Not bad. Telemach recently released its phone with very similar specifications, but with a noticeably worse processor - for 180 euros, or 1 euro in the old-for-new promotion. In a direct comparison, Oppo is the winner.

Engineers equipped the Oppo A79 5G phone with a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 processor. As already mentioned, it supports 5G mobile networks, in addition, the phone is equipped with a screen with a 17.1-centimeter or 6.72-inch diagonal, FHD+ resolution and frequency refresh rates of 60 hertz and 90 hertz respectively. The phone is understandably aimed at basic users, although we see no reason why it shouldn't also be used for playing mobile games at a lower resolution.

To capture photos and videos, the Oppo A79 5G smartphone has two cameras built into it, with resolutions of 50 million and 2 million pixels. The latter is a depth sensor and can hardly be classified as a camera. Only the main camera will be useful, and then more or less only in daylight.

For video calls, the phone has a front camera with a resolution of eight million pixels. There is even a special Ultra-Clear Image algorithm that "changes" photos to an apparent resolution of 108 million points. To see how this will work or look like in practice, we will have to wait.

The Oppo A79 5G smartphone is equipped with a battery capacity of 5,000 milliampere hours with fast charging technology of 33 watts. This should be enough for at least a full day's use, if not maybe half a day more.
