After 25 years, the new game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth is coming

The game is being developed by the Annapurna Interactive studio and will succeed the classic from 1997, which was then raised to cult status by Westwood Studio. It is less well known that there was another Blade Runner game before that, namely on the Commodore 64 platform in 1985.

Blade Runner is one of those franchises that almost every generation knows. It enjoys a similar recognition as Aliens, Star Wars, Star Trek, but while the other franchises often get new games, films or series, the Blade Runner universe, with the exception of the film Blade Runner 2049, has been somewhat forgotten by the studios.

That's about to change. The game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth will fill the gap between 2019 (the year the original film took place) and 2049, where we followed the events of the second film. An interesting and perhaps a bit scary fact is that this will be the first game that the Annapurna Interactive studio will develop internally without the help of other developers or studios. It is completely understandable that we have some doubts, but we will not judge prematurely. The first impression of the studio is that they are making the game for the right reasons - love and passion for the universe - so we are optimistic that they will come up with a great game.

From the trailer alone, it's hard to tell what kind of game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth is, but the Steam profile says it's an adventure game with an emphasis on investigation, which is what we expected, since it's still a sequel to the detective/ adventure games from 1997.

The story takes place after the Blackout, an event in 2022, when a nuclear warhead was launched over Los Angeles and destroyed the servers of the replicant manufacturer (Androids) Tyrell Corporation. Perhaps this is why Blade Runner is called back to find any remaining data as seen in the trailer.

Eight years later, it was the Wallace Corporation that began introducing new technological improvements to replicants. This may be another clue as to why Blade Runner is back in action. Unfortunately, for now we can only guess how the game will play and what the story will be like.

The developer also did not want to reveal the date or at least the approximate period of release. However, they announced that they will reveal more in the coming months. details. So we have a few painful months ahead of us. In the meantime, however, we will have to settle for the inevitable theories and speculations that are still appearing online.

Surprisingly, the name Blade Runner has appeared several times in the last hour. For example, last year saw the release of the not-so-lucky remake of the original Blade Runner game, the release of a new Blade Runner RPG tabletop game, and the announcement of a TV series coming to Amazon.
