After the recent launch of the G22 in 2023, HMD Global, the owner of the Nokia brand, has launched the Nokia G42 as the successor in the repairable smartphone series. It continues its efforts to provide easy, accessible and affordable in-house smartphone repairs, but the main innovation in the latest model is the inclusion of 5G connectivity (which was missing from the G22 model).

Repairable and replaceable parts on the Nokia G42 include the screen, battery and charging port. Nokia continues its partnership with the global repair community iFixit to facilitate the repair of the G42 and provide the necessary spare parts.

With the G42 and G22 models, Nokia wants to enable owners to use their phones almost like new long after the warranty has expired.

In addition to the repairable features, the Nokia G42 model also includes a 50 MP camera, which, in conjunction with the latest artificial intelligence technology, enables #141 clear and detailed images that easily compete with or even surpass phones in a similar price range. The model uses the Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G processor, which is also used in other affordable phones such as the Motorola Moto G53 5G. Although it does not reach exceptional speeds, it is of key importance as it offers 5G connectivity at a more affordable price.

Č although the brand has a new owner and also a renewed logo, for the G42 model, in true Nokia spirit, it claims that it can last up to three days with a single charge. The company even says that the battery will still operate at approximately 80 percent capacity after 800 full charges. However, if the battery degrades, you can easily buy a new one and replace it.

There is only one configuration with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with microSD card support up to 1TB. The Nokia G42 also has a 6.56-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a solid 560 nits of brightness (with additional magnification). Two colors are available: gray and purple. Nokia also promises three years of monthly security updates and two years of operating system updates for the G42.

The Nokia G42 smartphone will be available on European soil for around 260 euros. For this price, we will receive a mobile device equipped with six gigabytes of system memory and 128 gigabytes of data storage space. Spare parts will also be affordable. It will cost around 25 euros to buy the battery, 20 euros for the charging system, 50 euros for the screen and 25 euros for the back cover. The phone repair kit is on sale for five euros.
