Microsoft Edge 20 % faster on Apple computers

Microsoft's Edge browser has become as much as 20 percent faster on an Apple computer thanks to improvements. Microsoft programmers managed to achieve this by optimizing the software code.

Microsoft Edge is a relatively fast browser that has a lot of tricks up its sleeve to compete with its main competitors and in some areas offers an even better user experience. But there's always room for improvement, and that's what Microsoft did with its latest update, bringing much-needed improvements to macOS and Macs with the M2 chip in the first place.

The company published a post on the official Windows Blogs site detailing recent optimizations for the Edge browser on Macs with Apple Silicon processors. Microsoft says that it recently turned on profile optimization, which enabled up to 20 % better results in browser benchmarks (JetStream, MotionMark...), which should also affect general performance.

Profile optimization is not new in the world of browsers. This build technique tracks the most frequently used functions and prioritizes them over other, less used processes. As a result, users benefit from more efficient use of resources and better overall performance.

Almost eight years ago, in version 53 of the Chrome browser on Windows, Google introduced optimizations that increased the new tab load time to 14.8 %, page load time to 5.9 %, and Ä&#141 Start-up time up to 16.8 %. For Microsoft Edge on Windows, Microsoft added profile optimization with Edge 81 in March 2020, followed by connection time optimization with Edge 83.
