We grasped the "balance" of the KuKirin G2 Max scooter: we had 1000 W of power under our thumb

Electric motor 1000 W, top speed 55 km/h... crazy numbers that make us rightly wonder if it's an exaggeration?
We grasped the "balance" of the KuKirin G2 Max scooter: we had 1000 W of power under our thumb

Kukirin (short for Kugoo Kirin) G2 Max is the latest electric scooter from the manufacturer of the same name, but to our surprise, it is not their most powerful model. This honor belongs to the older brother Kugoo Kirin G3 with a 1200 W motor. Kuki's G2 Max had to make do with 1000 W of power, which is still an absurd number.

Everything about the #141;s screams for our attention, from the huge packaging in which the #141 is sent to you, the weight, the combination of black and orange and of course the aforementioned 1000 W electric motor, which at least on paper could led to a dizzying 55 km/h. Among the accessories we can find a removable seat, front and rear suspension, extremely powerful headlights, electric horn, turn signals and much more.

The manufacturer advertises it as an electric scooter, and that's how we tested it, but Slovenian legislation classifies it as a moped, which is an important difference.

KuKirin G2 Max: design, build quality

The electric scooter arrives in a large and well-lined packaging, which ensured that the delicate electronics arrived safely in our hands. Inside, in addition to the sunroof and the seat, we found some instructions, the main and spare keys, a hand press, some screws and some allen keys.

The Skiro is practically already assembled upon delivery. All we had to do was attach the handlebar to the fork of the e-skiro. As a precaution, we checked that all the cables were properly connected, especially for the brakes, but luckily for us, everything remained in place during delivery.

The first thing we noticed is the weight and size of the skiro. The scale stopped at 31 kilograms, which means that it is a bulky device that not everyone will be able to transport with one hand. Storing it will not be easy either, you will need a dedicated space. Even if you fold it, which the framework allows, you'll still have a lot of storage headaches. We tried to store it in the trunk of a car (Ford Mondeo and Fiat Bravo) and in both cases we had to store it diagonally and we didn't have much space left for anything else.

The good news is that this makes the electric scooter extremely robust and durable. While classic e-scooters avoid large potholes on the road, here we deliberately looked for a hole or an obstacle on the road that could threaten the structure of the scooter. We didn't find it. The front and rear forks work so well that we had to slow down the footage to see the suspension move.

You can adjust the handlebar to your height in just a few seconds. Three different heights are available. The electric scooter KuKirin G2 Max allows the installation of a seat, which can also be adjusted in height. The seat is sprung for additional comfort while driving. In our case, we removed the seat immediately after the test, as it nullifies the sportiness of the e-skiro.

On the left side of the steering wheel there is an electronic horn, a turn signal and a button to turn on the three front headlights, which are atypically powerful for this type of device. In the middle is a transparent screen with data on speed, kilometers traveled, battery status, selected gear and more. There's no companion app, so you'll have to rely on the screen for all information. On the right side there is a throttle handle and a #141 key. There are legally compliant reflectors on the sides, and a brake light at the rear.

Electric scooter KuKirin G2 Max: sporty and comfortable driving

At the beginning, you have to decide whether you will ride with or without a seat. With a seat, driving is undoubtedly more comfortable, but without a sporty feeling. The process of installing and removing the seat doesn't take long, but you still have to unscrew four screws, so you'll probably rarely change your riding style.

We ourselves spent most of our time in a standing position. The 1000 W electric motor promises speeds of up to 55 km/h, but we never reached it. In third gear, the 95 kg driver reached the highest speed of 47 km/h, in second gear 31 km/h and in first gear 13 km/h. Despite the fact that we did not manage to reach the advertised speed, it is still a very impressive number. Even more impressive are the accelerations. Some classic electric scooters have lazy throttle levers and a built-in safety feature to ensure that the starting acceleration is slow. There are no such restrictions here. It only takes a moment of inattention and the e-skiro can get out of control. Before you start, you must be sure that you have a firm grip on the handlebars. Stopping is extremely fast thanks to the disc brakes, even at the highest recorded speed of 47 km/h.

Driving is a real pleasure. At these speeds and accelerations, it is of course necessary to act carefully. If you are aware of the dangers and drive sensibly, then you will experience a real electric treat. Don't forget all the necessary protective equipment. The ride is very comfortable thanks to the suspension and 10-inch air-filled tires. Smaller holes in the road are imperceptible, even with larger ones, the spring bars absorb kinetic energy well.

The real test of an electric scooter's performance is the climbs. With a 1000 W motor, many people would expect the KuKirin e-ski to take down easy climbs like a breeze. This was not the same. We didn't have too many problems with the less steep climbs, but we never exceeded the speed of 30 km/h. On steeper and longer climbs, even this e-skiro ran out of breath. Not to the extent that we had to push the ski, but still the electric ski lost so much power that we were only going about 15 km/h.

The advertised range is 80 kilometers, which may only be feasible in perfect conditions. With a 95-kilogram rider and a combination of driving with some hills and varying road surfaces, we managed to get about 50 kilometers, which is still a decent number.

Final opinion

If you could describe the KuKirin G2 Max electric scooter in one word, you would choose "beast". It is incredibly fast, with the initial accelerations you just spin from the unexpected force. It's certainly one of the most fun machines we've been able to test in the last year.

It has no major shortcomings. It is safe, robust and reliable. Ironically, the motor performance and ultimate speed are both the KuKirin e-scooter's greatest strengths and weaknesses. In both parameters, it exceeds the legal limits, which puts this e-ski in Slovenia in the motor class of "mopeds". This means that you have to register it by law and driving is only allowed if you have a valid AM driving test. You can see a detailed explanation of the Slovenian legislation for electric scooters here.
