Will Google make its own Tensor processors?

The Google Tensor G2 processor promised a lot when it was introduced at the end of last year. This is indeedč equipped with two powerful ARM Cortex-X1 processor cores with a frequency of 2.85 gigahertz. In addition, it has two more Cortex-A76 processor cores with a frequency of 2.3 gigahertz and four energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 1.85 gigahertz. Everything is made with the help of Samsung 4LPP technology.

However, since the Tensor G2 mobile processor was somewhat disappointing, at least in terms of performance, the Google company is still preparing an innovation. It is a Tensor G3 processor, which is said to be available together with the Pixel 8 smartphones. On paper, they promise a lot, as they are said to be equipped with as many as nine processor cores. It will be about one Arm Cortex-X3 core (the most powerful), four Arm Cortex-A715 cores and four Arm Cortex-A510 cores. The graphics content will be matched by the powerful ARM Mali-G715 graphics solution with eight graphics cores.

What is interesting here is that Tensor processors for Google are manufactured by the competitor Samsung. But in 2025, that should change. The company Google will indeedč fully entrusted the production of Tensor processors to TSMC. In all likelihood, it will manufacture Tensor G5 processors for it. With this, Google will gain greater independence in the production of its processors. At the same time, they should become even better. The new Tensor G5 is likely to be used in the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro smartphones.
